Hyatt Regency Washington Receives Award From the Hotel Association of Washington, Dc

    The Hotel Association of Washington, D.C. awarded Hyatt Regency Washington with the Outstanding Achievement for Community Service Award at the Annual Stars of the Industry Luncheon, held on February 22, for their involvement with Capitol Hill Group Ministry in 2006. Additionally, Sarah Babovich, Convention Services Manager at Hyatt Regency Washington, received Honorable Mention for the Manager of the Year Award for Washington, D.C.

    Hyatt Regency Washington is now eligible to be recognized nationally through the American Hotel & Lodging Association at their annual Summer Summit conference being held in Nashville, Tennessee on June 12­-14, 2007, for this award category. National winners will be announced on April 1, 2007.

    In October 2006 Hyatt Regency Washington partnered with Capitol Hill Group Ministry to adopt 15 families in the community who were in transition and in need of assistance during the 2006 holiday season. Employees of Hyatt Regency Washington started out by preparing and personally delivering Thanksgiving dinner to all 15 families on Wednesday, November 22nd. The same families were re­visited on Wednesday, December 15th and received Christmas trees, ornaments and lights for their homes in preparation for the upcoming Christmas holiday. On Christmas Eve employees returned to deliver a ham dinner, complete with yams, mashed potatoes, vegetable casserole, and pecan pie for Christmas day along with gifts for each member of the family. In total Hyatt Regency Washington adopted more than 60 members of the community, including nearly 50 children, ranging in age from one to 16.

    “We applaud and congratulate the Hyatt Regency Washington for their outstanding public service and star achievement in our industry,” said Emily Durso, president of the Hotel Association of Washington, D.C.

    When asked about the awards presented, Hyatt Regency Washington’s general manager, Michael Smith stated, “The real joy comes from knowing we were able to help those in our own community and that employees were able to share in the joy of each family assisted. These events were heartwarming for all who participated.”
