AUSTRALIA’S HYATT HOTELS LAUNCH PACIFIC SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY

A Joint Initiative of Hyatt Hotels in Australia, Mint Group Australia and the Australian Federal and State Governments, PSOH Provides Associates Who Work at Hyatt Hotels With Continuous On- Site Workplace Learning

MELBOURNE (8 October 2009) – In a special ceremony with the Hon. Martin Ferguson MP, Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, Australia’s Hyatt hotels announced today the launch of the Pacific School of Hospitality (PSOH). Showing a continued dedication to employee training and customer service, participating Hyatt hotels in Australia including Grand Hyatt Melbourne, Hyatt Hotel Canberra, Hyatt Regency Coolum, Hyatt Regency Perth, Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove, Park Hyatt Melbourne and Park Hyatt Sydney have launched the PSOH, which provides associates working in these hotels with continuous workplace learning. The curriculum of PSOH includes training and development courses and also allows hotel staff to complete a Certificate III or IV in Hospitality while working at participating Hyatt hotels. Most hospitality employers in the country recognize the training certificate.

The programme is a joint initiative of Hyatt hotels in Australia, Mint Group Australia and the government’s Department of Education and Training.

Mint Group Director, Tony Fritsche, said, “We welcome the opportunity to have input on such a valuable training tool. Training in the current economy makes good business sense. The Hyatt hotels participating in this new programme will not only be improving the skills of their staff, but also investing in something that promotes career development, retention and productivity.”

Area Director of Human Resources for Hyatt hotels in Australia, Andrew Nodding, said, “The development and implementation of the PSOH has been a total hotel initiative, with a team of training specialists working tirelessly to prepare specialized training material.”

“Through the new programme, hotel associates will receive a wealth of experience and knowledge enabling them to perform their job with confidence and skill. Each associate will have a personalised learning syllabus customised to suit their individual requirements,” Nodding added.

Hyatt hotels recognise that their principle asset is their people. The PSOH will provide continuous learning – with courses online and in classroom settings - ensuring staff development and motivation, along with nationally recognized training certification.

The official PSOH launch event was held at in The Grand Club at Grand Hyatt Melbourne on 7 October from 4pm – 6pm, with special guest, the Hon Martin Ferguson MP, Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, in attendance.
