Hyatt Receives First 20 Applications for New Hyatt Place Hotels and Launches New Joint Venture Development Program

Global Hyatt Corporation announced today that it has received twenty applications in total from both developers and joint-venture development partnerships to build Hyatt Place hotels, Hyatt’s new entry into the select service segment.

“With a healthy pipeline of over 70 projects, we remain on track for more than 50 Hyatt Place and Hyatt Summerfield Suites approvals in 2006,” said Chris Ivy, senior vice president, development for Hyatt. “The development community has strongly embraced our product and appreciate Hyatt’s commitment to fostering a culture that understand the select service and extended stay hotel segments.

The locations of the new-build Hyatt Place franchise development projects include: Seattle; Reno; Fresno, Calif.; Jackson, Miss.; Lake Mary (Orlando), Fla.; South Bend, Ind.; Annapolis, Md.; Herndon, Va.; Langhorne (Philadelphia), Pa.; Chesapeake, Va.; Bethlehem, Pa., North Charleston, S.C.; Fredericksburg, Va.; and Anchorage, Ala.

In addition, Global Hyatt Corporation has invested in the development of Hyatt Place and Hyatt Summerfield Suites hotels through five joint-venture development partnerships established in the United States and Canada. Three of these new partnerships are with ownership groups that currently own full-service Hyatt hotels and resorts. Plans call for the development of five to 10 hotels each per joint venture over the next three to five years. These joint ventures will focus on strategic locations in major urban centers throughout the North America.

The locations of the proposed joint-development Hyatt Place projects include: Bonita Springs (Fort Myers), Fla.; Long Island, N.Y.; Gilbert (Phoenix), Ariz.; Frisco (Dallas), Texas; Portland, Ore. and Calgary, Alberta.

“The Hyatt Place brand continues to appeal to developers seeking a contemporary, upscale select service product,” said Jim Chu, senior vice president, owner relations and franchise support for Hyatt. “We are equally excited about our new prototype for Hyatt Summerfield Suites, which we are confident will be the category leader,” he added.

Following the acquisition of the AmeriSuites hotel chain in January 2005, senior executives and design teams at Global Hyatt Corp. along with industry leading architects, interior designers and brand consultants set out to accomplish specific objectives to revitalize the chain and to launch a new leading edge hotel concept in the upscale select service segment. Renovation and repositioning of existing AmeriSuites hotels to Hyatt Place began in the fourth quarter of 2005, with rebranding of qualified corporate and franchised hotels due for completion in early 2007.

In January of this year, Global Hyatt Corp. acquired the highly successful upscale Summerfield Suites extended stay brand and franchise system. The new Hyatt Summerfield Suites prototype will be launched at a New York press conference on Sunday, June 4, 2006.
