BACKGROUND AND ARCHITECTURE

Inspired and designed by the renowned Thai architect, Lek Bunnag, THE BARAI, reflects his lifelong study of Thailand’s historic, cultural and artistic heritage. Thailand’s story has, for centuries, been interwoven into the fabric of South East Asia’s past, and it is from these rich and varied traditions that THE BARAI was inspired.

THE BARAI is named after barays, large man-made reservoirs created by the ancient Khmers to channel irrigated water for use in their daily lives. Barays were believed to have been life-arteries of the empire, a source of serenity, healing, spirituality and peace for the people. THE BARAI at Hyatt Regency Hua Hin echoes the roles of the ancient baray in its structural magnificence, visual harmony and dedication to wellness. Lek Bunnag’s interpretation of culture and history, eternal yet constantly evolving, is symbolised by THE BARAI; solid architecture to stand the test of time offering an oasis of wellness, contrasting with the impermanence of water, flowing serenely through THE BARAI.

Set on beachfront property amidst lush and mature tropical foliage, THE BARAI promises to be a truly special hotel and spa in a tranquil and spiritual sanctuary offering an extensive range of spa treatments as well as luxurious residential accommodation.

ACCOMMODATION AND SPA ROOMS

The Barai Suites, eight residential spa suites ranging in size from 126 to 149 square metres, are designed for exclusive stay and private spa indulgence. The Barai Suites on the ground floor feature a verandah with a private plunge pool and tropical garden, while those on the upper floor have spacious balconies and spectacular panoramic views of the Gulf of Thailand.

THE BARAI’s 18 private spa rooms, each features a private outdoor soaking pool, a rain shower, a Thai day-bed enclave for traditional Thai treatments and relaxation, and a private changing room and vanity. Three of the double rooms offer deluxe hydrotherapy treatments with the addition of a Vichy treatment room and steam room.

SPA TREATMENTS

THE BARAI offers a wide range of relaxing, results-oriented and traditional treatments that draw inspiration from the ancient traditional Thai health rituals, along with the best and most innovative of western therapies. The treatment menu will take a holistic approach to mind, body and spirit, focusing on customized treatment programmes designed to meet the specific needs of each client.

TRANQUILLITY COURT

Enclosed by sheer walls, with a tantalizing view of the sea, this secluded area of tranquility flanks a 30-metre long unique swimming channel surrounded by a sand and stone court – a perfect location for contemplation, yoga and meditation.

MCFARLAND HOUSE

McFarland House is an old two-story pavilion on the beach front, dating back to the 19th century, has been restored and transformed into an elegant and breezy casual dining area, offering a romantic and ambient setting with 180 degree views of the Gulf of Thailand.

Dr. George McFarland was the son of Presbyterian missionaries who left the United States for the tropics to join the Church of Christ in 1860. He was appointed superintendent of the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok and dean of The Royal Medical College, the government’s first medical school. He also opened Thailand’s first dental clinic, and spent 16 years working on the acclaimed McFarland Thai-English dictionary, which he published in 1939. While McFarland House which stands today is newly built, the floorboards and beam used are from the original house Dr. McFarland lived in.

McFarland House is open to the public for all-day dining on the ground floor, and the upper floor is reserved exclusively for THE BARAI guests.  It serves a western style snacks and light meals menu, a variety of blended juices and infusion teas.
