Hyatt Harborside at Boston’s Logan International Airport has just become among the first hotels in Boston to earn Energy Star Label Certification and is now listed on the Registry of ENERGY STAR Qualified Buildings. A recent recipient of 2007 Boston’s Green Business Award by the city’s Mayor, the hotel continues to implement pro-active initiatives in its ongoing dedication to sensitivity to the environment.

Some steps taken in its “going green” mission:

• Replacement of 95% of the incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs throughout the building

• Monitoring of recyclable items to ensure they are placed in the correct containers

• All air-handling units are set to turn on and off when needed to cool or warm occupied spaces

• Guestroom thermostats set at 72 degrees during the summer months and 68 degrees in the winter months

• Installation of motion light and timer switches in storage closets and certain offices

• Replacement of all guestroom thermostats with low voltage digital thermostats

• Purchased new fleet of shuttle buses. The new vans are compact and run more efficiently.

• Introduction of saline mineral pool system improves water quality and removes the need for hazardous chemicals. Some benefits are elimination of eye irritation, chlorine odor. Outcome is smooth, sparkling, clean pool water and truly pleasant guest experience.
