CELEBRATING FASHION AT GRAND HYATT MUMBAI
Grand Hyatt Mumbai Selected as Official Hotel for Lakmé Fashion Week – Fall / Winter 2009 Show

Mumbai (March 10, 2009) - Grand Hyatt Mumbai, India’s largest multi-dimensional lifestyle complex, will play host to the Lakmé Fashion Week –  Fall / Winter 2009 show to be held from Friday, March 27 to Tuesday, March 31, 2009.  This unique presentation planned at Grand Hyatt Mumbai will give designers the opportunity to display their Fall/Winter 2009 collection to an exclusive audience in the hotel’s grand spaces.

Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) is jointly organised by Lakmé, the No.1 cosmetics and beauty brand in India and IMG Fashion, global leader in the management and production of fashion weeks and designer fashion events. LFW has been conceived and created with a vision to “Redefine the future of fashion and Integrate India into the global fashion world”.

Keeping up the tradition, Lakmé & IMG Fashion, over the last 10 years, continue to promote, support and nurture an extraordinary list of designers who have shown on India’s catwalks and made a mark on the International fashion scene. IMG Fashion along with Lakmé has also been instrumental in encouraging new designers over the years, all of whom and many creative contributors have formed the DNA of the Indian fashion Industry.

In an endeavour to engage better with the Fashion Designer and Buyer Community this forthcoming season, LFW will continue its magnificence at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Grand in scope and design, Grand Hyatt Mumbai is a city landmark, created by an international team of designers and consultants; the complex was conceived by the internationally renowned architecture firm of Lohan Associates, Chicago.

The interiors were designed by Chhadha, Seimbieda and Remedios of Long Beach, California, the landscaping was conceptualised by SWA Group Sausalito, California, the lighting is by Integrated Lighting Design, Marina Del Ray, California, and the artwork was curated by Rajeev Sethi Scenographers from New Delhi, India.

The complex includes 547 luxurious guest rooms and suites; the Grand Club, the hotel’s executive floors; the city’s most sophisticated and technologically advanced conference and meeting facilities; and 147 serviced apartments.  In addition, there are five innovative speciality restaurants that serve authentic Indian and international cuisine; China House Lounge – the city’s trendiest night spot; The Bar; the Gourmet Store; a Fitness Centre and Spa; a beauty salon; and a multi-level shopping plaza.  The hotel was built in a square, with the centrepiece a 40 ft Egyptian-style waterfall.

Design has long been a central tenet of Hyatt’s philosophy towards constructing its Grand Hyatt hotels and Grand Hyatt Mumbai is no exception. The hotel’s architectural façade is unmistakably massive, yet understated. The open-to-the-elements décor is manifest in the high open spaces of the atriums and alcoves; the innovative artworks and installations; the seamless, contemporary style of the restaurants and bars; and in the cascading caress of water underscored by granite elements.  The accommodation is created along clean geometric lines, and is crisp and comfortable, with soothing tones to induce a feeling of calmness and serenity in every room.  The 12,000 sq ft Grand Ballroom overlooks a majestic waterfall and the hotel’s indoor courtyard, with breathtaking water features and landscaping. The lobby, with its unpretentious reception area and comfortable seating, leads seamlessly into the hotel’s restaurants, where design elements blend subtly with diffused lighting effects that do ample justice to the heavenly cuisine.  China House, the hotel’s signature restaurant and lounge, exemplifies a sense of opulence, having been designed to exude the warmth of a Chinese home, and features contemporary and interactive Chinese kitchens, private spaces and a lounge. The four other speciality restaurants have an open-plan design, while preserving the concept of an individual restaurant.

Together with curator Rajeev Sethi, Grand Hyatt Mumbai takes a pioneering step in bringing together known artistes and upcoming talent to showcase exemplary artworks of mythical expression on contemporary platforms.  With its regal presence on the suburban landscape, Grand Hyatt Mumbai draws attention as a signature identity, where hospitality is at its zenith.
