HYATT REGENCY AUCKLAND AWARDED FIVE STARS

NEW ZEALAND, June 2009 – Hyatt Regency Auckland has been awarded the top rating from Qualmark thanks to the newly rejuvenated rooms in the Regency Tower and the consistently high standard of rooms in the Residence Tower. The new rating clearly recognises the hotel as one of the best in New Zealand.

Qualmark licenses professional and trustworthy New Zealand tourism businesses to use Qualmark, “tourism’s official quality mark”, to help international and domestic travellers select places to stay, things to do and ways to get around.

Qulamark’s Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Penrose says “Congratulations to Hyatt Regency Auckland achievement of gaining their Qualmark 5-star grade.”

The assessment of Hyatt Regency Auckland by Qualmark was timed to fit in with the extensive upgrade to the rooms in both towers and its facilities.  The Residence Tower is complete, with the rooms having been refreshed with a warmer, more inviting colour palette. Beds have received new linen, and a valance that matches the new curtains and headboard, which complement the original decor of the room.

The Residence Suites have received all new furnishings, with the colours having transformed the room to match the unique outlook of Auckland City, the harbour and the parks. The greens and browns have an earthy feeling, with a very chic and contemporary design to each piece of furniture, created specially for these rooms by New Zealand designers. New 32-inch TVs have been placed in all of the bedrooms and 42-inch TVs have been installed in the lounges.  The new Residence bathrooms have all received fresh paint that has brightened the rooms dramatically.

The Regency Tower will be modernised floor by floor, with four floors completed thus far.  Two new room types will also be introduced, namely the View King and a Suite View King. In all the rooms, the new, textured carpet and fresh colour on the walls brings a warmer feel and complements the original heritage of the hotel. All of the light fittings have been replaced so that guests can control the ambience effortlessly.

In terms of decor, the all new black-and-white artwork was inspired by local landmarks and taken by a local up-and-coming artist.

Ideal for the business traveller, wireless Internet access is also now available throughout the entire hotel.

The concept for both towers was created by Lukas Design, a leading New Zealand interior design company that has been in operation for over 20 years. The company’s forté is hospitality, having worked on other iconic properties around the world, including the Vatulele Six Senses Resort in Fiji, the world-renowned Golf Resort Kauri Cliffs and many other high-end hotels.
